« My favourite morning moment is when I hit the snooze button - I’m not a morning person »
Elie is a brilliant textile designer living with her boyfriend Renaud and goldfish Nigel in a flatshare near Hackney Downs.
Along with an hibiscus tea and some matcha mochis, Elie shared with us her home rituals, top relaxing moments and secret life-hacks.
3 steps morning routine
My favourite morning moment is when I hit the snooze button - I’m not a morning person.
I stretch then do the 5 Tibetan Rites - it’s a bit like yoga, it helps to lift up and activate your energy for the day.
I let the fresh air in by opening all the windows of the flat, and head for breakfast and coffee.

3 steps evening routine
I start cooking straight away when I get home from work. I like to cook early when I’m alone, it clears my mind after a day spent in front of a screen.
I have a very special bed ritual: I turn on my “mushroom light” for a few minutes - It’s an old light I got back in France years ago, it shines red and orange hues in a very soothing way!
Re-used tea cups and lama doll
Top 3 creative moments at home
After dinner I do something creative like drawing or embroidery with Netflix or some good music in the background. It’s a self-imposed routine that relaxes me.
I frequently like to look out for cheap flowers especially dried one like eucalyptus or thistle, and then assemble them in bouquets.

Top 3 relaxing moments and habits
I brew a hot cup of tea, ideally with a goat cheese tartine on the side. Add some dried figs and sumac on top and I’m at the top of my game!
I also enjoy taking care of my ever-growing collection of plants while socializing with Nigel [Elie’s goldfish].
I must confess: I look up flight tickets to far destinations on a very regular basis, dreaming of which one will be the next. In September we’re heading off to Korea for a couple of weeks. Supreme excitement!
Home-made memento mori
Secret life hack
I use a chestnut pan to char-grill aubergines. I’m a baba-ganoush addict.
Most treasured possession
Poukki - My Chinese tiger soft toy. It’s a very special object for me, to the extent that it has inspired one of my tattoos.
Worst pyjama set
When I steal Renaud’s old t-shirt and boxer shorts - I look like a nerdy tomboy. The icing on the cake? Winter woollen socks!
Dream home outfit
A set where I wouldn’t look like a grannie nor be ashamed to open the door to the Amazon guy. Comfy materials with cool patterns are a must.
Culture vulture - Elie’s current recommandations:
The vegetarian (2007) by Han Kang - a disturbing book on mental illness, with mesmerizing descriptions and a very bizarre atmosphere.
Baby Driver (2016) by Edgar Wright - a guilty pleasure, the playlist is awesome. It’s a feel-good movie for a Sunday night in.
Last night I did a kimchi stew taught by a Taiwanese friend. Add soba noodles on the side and you have a perfect meal.
