"I keep up with my fashion illustration skills by sketching most evenings"
Rosie is a wonderful womenswear designer living in a lovely house in De Beauvoir with 3 flatmates and cat Scarlett.
Passionate about music, she talked to us about her last gigs, top relaxing ideas and creativity rituals.
3 steps morning routine
First I make my phone snooze a few times, then Amazon’s Alexa wakes me up, then Scarlett comes in for a cuddle - 3rd and last alarm system.
If I have time, I’ll make porridge, if not I’ll just head to work.

3 steps evening routine
I eat out quite a lot, often locally as all my friends live around here. Brilliant Corners and the Good Egg are our best eating spots at the moment, while The Scolt head nearby is an all-time favorite for drinks - it has a cool and friendly atmosphere.
If I’m home I cook a lot of veggie healthy stuff. I used to eat meat until I lived on Ridley Road market for a year - seeing and smelling the meat everyday turned me into a vegetarian!
I then often chill on Netflix. At the moment I’m watching Peaky Blinders - I’m probably 10 years late but I love it! I confess I tend to binge watch and stay up way too late. Another gripping one I just discovered is The Sinner.
Top 3 creative moments at home
I keep up with my fashion illustration skills by sketching most evenings. I find it quite therapeutic - it’s like having a quiet moment to myself.
At the moment I’m into flower pressing. I arrange them into little glass frames of different sizes, I must say it’s been trial and error so far!
I go to see gigs or exhibitions at least once a week, so I spend quite some time looking up online for new ones. I use Spotify to get music recommendation and Ents24 to get alerts about new gigs - I found it really useful.

Top 3 relaxing moments and habits
I listen to a lot of podcasts, especially non-fiction. I find everything about S-town awesome - the journalist, the main character, the story…I was really hooked and listened to it in one go!
To switch off I do a lot of Internet browsing, especially on Ebay. I love collecting promotional material from 70s rock bands and old perfume adverts. I also spend time on Curbed NY where you can walk around celebrity properties and mansions - it’s my guilty pleasure!
I started Yin yoga recently. It’s yoga where you hold a pose for 5 min in one big stretch. I truly feel my back realign! I try to do it a few times a week if I can.

Secret life hacks
I try and walk rather than take public transport - I hate the tube. I’m lucky I have a 30 min walk commute!
Most treasured possession
A vintage Kimono a good friend of mine brought me back from Japan. I’m going to LA in March, but next on my list is definitely Japan!
Kimonos are the best
Worst pyjama set
My mum gave me this pink buttoned-up silk pyjama nightshirt that used to be like a floor length dress when I was about 6, but now I’ve grown into it! I don’t wear it anymore but I keep it as a heirloom.
Dream home outfit
I would love a slip dress with a matching robe and silk slippers. I love all things personalised so with a monogram it would be the dream!
Culture vulture - Rosie's current recommandations
Stranger Things Season 2 - everyone’s watching it, aren’t they?
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier - I read it as a teenager and I picked it up again recently. It’s part of my favorites that I re-read from time to time!
Wireless Nights. Jarvis Cocker investigates about night lives and jobs - a captivating eye-opener!
I went to see Remembering CBGBs that was part of the ‘New York -The Grime and the Glamour’ season at the Barbican. It’s a rare documentary about this mythical club with live footage and interviews. I also saw Desperately seeking Suzan there and found it amazing, I couldn’t believe I’d never seen it before!
A margarita that sent my flatmate straight to bed! More seriously, I went to Marrakesh in the summer and have since been inspired to experiment with Moroccan dhal and vegetable tajines.

Insta is really good for inspiration and vintage shots. I love @marrakech_brooklyn - amazing vintage fashion photography - and @kimcoolmon - they have awesome 70s bathrooms and vintage interiors - I reckon a bit kitsch but great!
